Brindisi, Italy — STP Brindisi marked a significant milestone in sustainable mobility on October 14, 2023, with an Info Day event held at the Salone Nautico di Puglia-SNIM (Porticciolo Turistico di Brindisi – Via Dardanelli, 2). The event showcased the unveiling of the new electric motorboat, Levante, a pilot action under the project SuMo (Sustainable Mobility in the Port Cities of the Southern Adriatic Area). The project is funded by INTERREG IPA CBC Italy - Albania - Montenegro Programme 2014/2020, aimed, inter alia, at enhancing public transport in Brindisi while reducing its environmental impact.
The Levante, featuring a fully electric engine, is designed to transport up to 40 passengers, providing a sustainable and eco-friendly mode of mobility. This new addition is expected to result in a remarkable reduction of 75 tons of CO2 emissions. The electric motorboat is scheduled to begin its service by the end of 2023.
The acquisition of this fully electric motorboat represents just one of the pilot actions outlined in the SuMo project, which encompasses initiatives such as raising public awareness about "green" and "smart" mobility, expanding sustainable mobility networks through the development of territorial and cross-border guidelines, improving cross-border coordination in the implementation of transport systems, and upgrading tourist transport systems.
